Subject: Aaron update 155 Date: Monday, July 11, 2005 10:36 AM From: Kevin Quick To: Aaron Update List Well, 3 months have gone by, so I thought it was about time for another update. All is well. Aaron is 2 years and 7 months old now, and is still gaining his 1/4 pound per month, like clockwork. He weighed in this morning at 16.75 pounds. Robin, at 17 months, is only 17.25 pounds, so she's small for her age, too. It's nice to think that there's probably at least a contributing genetic factor in Aaron's smallness. He measured 30.75" tall this morning, so he's continuing to grow taller. He is a skinny guy, though! We're backing off on the Pediasure, and Aaron's appetite for regular food is increasing. He ate so many Spaghetti-O's last night that I had to take him out for a walk, as a precautionary measure. We hope this trend continues; it is heartwarming for us to see his interest in food increasing. Developmentally, Aaron's doing great. He knows the entire alphabet (he recognizes all of the capital letters, and can say the alphabet in order), can count to 20, and knows a dozen or so colors. He's starting to put two words together, like "chocolate cookie" and "two hands." He loves counting things and telling us what color everything is. He's a very thoughtful and sensitive boy, and loves details, especially details on how things work. He'll spend 20 minutes opening and closing a door, making sure he understands exactly how it works in every detail. We've been going to church regularly again (what a blessing for Kathleen and me this has been), and Aaron just loves that. Before the service begins, Aaron enjoys walking and running around, looking up and grinning at everyone. During the service, he and Robin spend time in the toddler nursery, playing with toys and eating crackers, while Kathleen and I enjoy the service together without distractions, like we did in the "old days." Robin is doing fine, too. She thinks she should be able to do everything that Aaron does. She thinks she knows her colors, but everything is "green." She's a bit less sensitive and more strong-willed than Aaron is. Left on her own, she'll wander as far as we'll let her go (out of sight, usually), whereas Aaron will stay pretty close by. In stores, Aaron is gentle and careful, whereas Robin is more apt to knock things off of shelves, etc. Disciplining the two is very different, too; a stern look or a disapproving word is all it takes to make Aaron sad and pouty, whereas Robin needs much stronger persuasion. Here's a photo from a week ago, on the 4th of July. The owners of the property that we caretake, the Hofmanns, had their annual 4th of July celebration, and invited us to participate, as has become customary. In less than 2 weeks, we'll all be traveling by car (minivan) to Las Vegas, where we'll be displaying our machinery at a machinery show. Kathleen's mom and aunt from Los Angeles will be with us for about 5 days, taking care of Aaron and Robin for us while Kathleen does the show with me. It should be an adventure: a 10-day trip with an 11-hour drive each way. Enjoy the rest of the summer! Love, Kevin, Kathleen, Aaron and Robin |
