We had our visits with the pulmonologist (San Francisco), opthalmologist (Santa Rosa) and pediatrician (Lakeport) on Monday and Tuesday.

We were hoping that the pulmonologist would say that Aaron could come off of the oxygen, but I guess we have to be patient for awhile longer. Aaron has to be weaned off of the oxygen gradually. So, now, he’ll be off the oxygen for four hours each day. In two weeks, we’ll increase that to eight hours a day. In a month, we’ll see the pulmonologist again, and if everything is going well, Aaron will then go on oxygen only at night, for another month. Then, maybe in two months, Aaron will come off the oxygen completely.

Even being off the oxygen for four hours a day is a blessing. Kathleen brought Aaron to the pediatrician yesterday, with no tubes nor wires! She said she had a real sense of freedom, carrying Aaron around without the tubes and wires. Also, just carrying him around the house is nice without the feeling that he’s attached to something.

The opthalmologist, who was filling in for Dr. Good, said things looked very good with Aaron’s eyes. He’s going to confer with Dr. Good, then we may be OK for not seeing the opthalmologist for another year. Aaron didn’t enjoy this visit too much. While a nurse held him (see the attached picture; Kathleen had brought her camera along), the eye doctor held Aaron’s well-dilated eyes open with a speculum, then poked and prodded his eyes, and examined them with a bright light. Aaron cried in a heart-wrenching way that we hadn’t heard before. This got to us a little bit!

Aaron weighed in yesterday at 7 pounds, 3 ounces. So, he’s still growing.

We’ve been having a few fussy and semi-sleepless nights, but nothing too bad. Once he gets to sleep, Aaron does well at night.

I’ve also attached a picture of Aaron that I took a couple of days ago, as we were changing his cannula (so, there’s nothing on his face). The picture was taken in very low light without a flash, so it’s a little grainy, but I like the picture, anyway.

Thanks for your continued love and prayers. We’re all doing fine.

Love,

Kevin, Kathleen and Aaron
