Aaron weighed in again this morning at 12.25 lbs, for the 6th week in a row. (I just deleted a few negative comments that always seem to crop up on Friday mornings, Aaron's weighing time. We're so much looking forward to the days when we begin to rejoice at the numbers on the scale!)

Aaron's been on the Reglan for 2 weeks now. The GI people said that it may take 3 weeks for it to really "kick in." So, we can't really evaluate how the Reglan is doing yet. So far, though, we've seen no negative side effects, which is good.

Aaron's length (now 25") and head circumference continue to grow, which is good. But, because he's not gaining any weight, he is getting skinnier. The GI has given us 2 months for Aaron to gain some substantial weight on the Reglan; if this doesn't work, then we're going to have to take "other measures," like putting in a g-tube.

At the GI's suggestion, we're feeding Aaron Pediasure now, rather than the baby formula. In the past week or so, the amounts that Aaron has been eating has been increasing, which is encouraging. He had been down to averaging 12 ounces per day (with a few dips down to 7 or 8 ounces), and now he's up to 16 ounces per day, and 19 ounces for each of the past two days. Again, this is encouraging.

We just did some calculations, and even at 19 ounces (his very best days), Aaron's still only taking in 102 calories per kg of body weight. He needs 100 cal/kg to maintain his weight (his average so far this month is 92), and 120 cal/kg to start growing. So, after doing some more calculations, we've decided to add 2 tbsp of Polycose to each 8 oz of his Pediasure, to bring his cal/kg up to 120, assuming we can maintain the 19 oz of Pediasure per day. He's still not too interested in solid food, so we're not expecting to add a lot of nutrition through solid food in the near term.

Aaron still throws up about once a day, but the volumes that he's been throwing up lately have been lessening. That indicates to us, too, that his stomach emptying may be speeding up.

Developmentally, Aaron continues to do just fine. He's crawling very well, he "pulls up" into a standing position, and he "walks" if we hold onto his hands. He has two bottom teeth now, and his two upper front teeth are just beginning to come in. Over the past couple of weeks Aaron's been a bit fussier and clingier than normal, but we think this is due primarily to his teething. He isn't saying anything intelligible yet, but he does make some very cute "dee do dee do, gee go gee go" sounds.

We're at week 36 now with baby #2, and everything is still going just fine. Only 4 weeks to go! Kathleen and I keep telling each other that things are going to get easier once we have two! :)

Attached is a picture of Aaron playing with a big stuffed lizard that his uncle Brian gave him for Christmas.

Thank you for your continued prayers!

Love, Kevin, Kathleen, Aaron and Baby #2

P.S. We've recently added a couple of new friends to the Aaron update list. For their benefit, and as a reminder to everyone, Aaron's entire story is on the web, at:
