QuickNotes, Winter 1997Holiday Greetings! Hi from Kevin and Kathleen Quick! Thanks for taking a few minutes out of your hectic holiday schedule to peruse our inaugural K&K Records newsletter, "QuickNotes." We hope to send out "QuickNotes" three times a year or so to keep you up to date with what's happening with our fledgling music business. 1997-A Busy Year We've had a busy, but fun year. Kevin's debut solo piano album, "Tears of Love," was released last November at our "A Mountain Christmas" craft fair at Woodland Park Community Church. The music was received very well, and CD and cassette sales received a good jump start. Since then, we've been playing at a number of venues, including SpringSpree (Colorado Springs' annual street fair), Arnold Hall at the Air Force Academy, SonScape Ministries, and The Lion and the Rose Castle bed & breakfast (our next-door neighbors; check them out at www.lionrosecastle.com). Our local newspaper, the Ute Pass Courier, caught wind of our activities and wrote us up in the Wednesday, July 30, 1997 edition. New Toys Last spring, we decided that we really needed a "touring" rig; hauling our Yamaha C5 grand piano from gig to gig in our 2-seater sports car just didn't seem practical. Plus, Kevin wanted to orchestrate his next album with some other instruments besides the piano, so...time for some new toys. First, we said good-bye to the beloved Toyota MR2 Turbo [big sigh from Kevin] and bought a 4-wheel drive Mazda MPV mini-van. (Mini-van? What else do K&K have up their sleeves?) Then, we "invested in" the musical equipment: A Kurzweil K2500X sampling synthesizer, a collection of the best digital sound samples known to man, a Gulbransen MIDI controller for the Yamaha C5, a drumKat MIDI drum controller, and some various stands and benches and things. The "brain" of the new setup is a Macintosh PowerPC running Mark of the Unicorn's FreeStyle for composition and Digital Performer for recording, arranging and tweaking. New Album Due in March Needless to say, Kevin has been having fun with his new toys. His second album, which he's been working on for two years now, is in the final "tweaking" stage. Like his first album, the new one will have twelve songs, with piano as the main instrument. However, the new album adds an orchestral accompaniment to the piano: drums and other percussion instruments, bass, strings, cello, french horns, flutes, English horn, etc. We're very, very pleased with how the new album is coming together, and we're looking forward to announcing its release in our March 1998 issue of QuickNotes. Web Site & E-mail Do you surf the web? If so, check out our web site at www.JamesLTaylor.com/KKRecords. Look for a major update to the site next spring, with the release of the new album. You can reach us via e-mail at KKRecords@codenet.net. Toll-Free Order Line For everyone outside our local calling area, we've set up a toll-free order line: 1-888-600-7617 (if you call us locally, if you wouldn't mind, please call us on our regular number, 719-687-7617; this will save us the service charge). If you don't have Kevin's debut album yet, or if you know someone who might enjoy some relaxing, romantic piano music for Christmas, we'd be very thankful and honored if you kept us in mind! Again, thank you for your interest in our musical endeavors, and may you and your family have the warmest and happiest of holidays. |
