Subject: Aaron update 153 Date: Tuesday, March 22, 2005 1:26 PM From: Kevin Quick To: Aaron Update List Greetings! It's been over two months, so we thought it was about time for an update. In general, we think things are going pretty well. Last week we passed Aaron's two-year corrected birthday (the day on which he would have been born had he gone full term; his actual, chronological birthday was last November). He's still a tiny little guy, but developmentally, he's seems to be doing OK. We've had kind of a rough couple of months, eating-wise, but Aaron's appetite has rebounded a little in the past couple of days. Thankfully, he's at least continued to gain his 1/4 pound per month, like clockwork, and he's now at 15.75 lbs. He still throws up about once every other day or so. We're scheduled for an appointment with a traveling group of UCSF doctors on April 6 (Aaron's NICU was at CPMC; we haven't met any of the UCSF doctors yet) in Clearlake. We've had a couple of pre-visit telephone consultations with the UCSF staff, who have clued us in that Aaron is only in the 2nd percentile (2% or below), weight-wise, even for micro-preemies (yes, that's REALLY low). They are concerned about his weight, as we are and always have been, and we are eager to see whether they might have any new ideas for us. Aaron says quite a few single words, but hasn't begun combining words yet. He walks and runs all over the place, and LOVES going outside. Whenever there's any hint of anyone going outside, Aaron cries out, "Shoes! Shoes!" (He wants us to put on his shoes, so he can go outside, too.) Robin's been chugging along as usual, doing just fine. She's walking about half the time now, and crawling the other half. She's just a regular, pretty much trouble-free kid, and a sweet, cuddly joy to Kathleen and me. Now that Spring has arrived, the time has finally come for us to begin bringing Aaron out of his quarantine and into the real world a little bit more (hooray!). We look forward to seeing many of you at church on Sunday; we're planning on attending the second service (yes, all four of us). We know, it's a different church now, and we're certainly a different family! Yesterday evening, we went to our twice-per-month flock group (Bible study group) meeting at the Mathews' (which was so uplifting, as usual, thank you again, Alan & Mary Ann), then stopped at Safeway on the way home. I took some photos with our new pocket-sized digital camera (Canon SD300) while we were there at the supermarket. I thought you might enjoy the attached photos. May God bless each of us with a very special Easter weekend. Love, Kevin, Kathleen, Aaron and Robin |
