Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!

Yesterday, as well as being Thanksgiving Day, was Aaron's first birthday. So, it was a very special Thanksgiving for us.

Aaron enjoyed his birthday festivities: He had a nice birthday cake, and afterwards, he opened some small gifts. I attached three pictures to this update; make sure you scroll down far enough to see all of them!

Aaron weighed in this morning at 12.25 pounds, which is 1/4 pound more than he's been the previous weeks this month. So, in the past 3 months, he's gained 1 pound. Slow, yes, but he IS going in the right direction.

We still haven't made up our minds on whether to start Aaron on the Reglan. On the more frustrating days, we lean toward putting him on it. Then, on the better days, we lean toward letting Aaron's body handle things in it's own way and at it's own pace. We've been doing a little better on his feedings. We've managed to get a little above 100 calories per kg of body weight for the past few days (we really want to be at 120); his previous 4-month average had been around 95. Monday, we're hoping for a call back from Dr. Perr, Aaron's official (non-substitute) gastroenterologist. We hope she'll spend some time with us on the phone, explaining the details and ramifications of Aaron's GI tests' results. (By the way, on Wednesday, a nurse was able to relay to us that Aaron's stomach emptying took 99 minutes. A normal adult's stomach empties in anywhere between 12 and 65 minutes, but we don't know how this relates to babies, or especially preemies; hopefully, Dr. Perr will be able to give us a feel for just where we are here.) Then, we plan on giving Dr. Lee, Aaron's primary neonatologist, a call, to get his opinion on the Reglan question.

On Wednesday, we found out the results of Kathleen's definitive, 3-hour gestational diabetes test. The results were positive, which means that Kathleen does have gestational diabetes. Kathleen was immediately put on a low-carb diet, and she'll be monitored every week to see how well the low-carb diet is doing. (We know some of you friends have had success on the Atkins diet; Kathleen may be asking you for some pointers!) We're hoping that the low-carb diet does the trick, so Kathleen won't have to have insulin shots.

We're in week 30 with our pregnancy with baby #2. Woohoo!

Oh yes, Aaron has his first tooth now; it started coming in about 2 weeks ago. And, two days ago, he began crawling! Today, he's crawling all over the place. Yep, lots of neat stuff, and lots to be thankful for.

Love,

Kevin, Kathleen, Aaron & Baby #2
