We made it to two years! Whew! Aaron's second birthday was on Saturday.

Today, we had our 2-year check-up with pediatrician/neonatologist Dr. Anaka in Santa Rosa. This was our second visit with Dr. Anaka, our first "official" (non-second-opinion) visit, really, and we had another good experience with him. He was very thorough, and we felt as though we were seeing eye-to-eye with him, and communicating well. We again left his office feeling pretty good about things in general.

Aaron's still at only 15 pounds, however, so he's still not growing much at all; he's gained less than 3 pounds since his first birthday. Developmentally, he's doing fine; he walks all over the place now (in fact, at the doctor's office, someone commented, "he looks too small to be walking"), and he can say about 30 different words. So, needless to say, the lack of growth is still our main concern.

We're now going to be taking Aaron off the Reglan, and we'll see how that goes over the next couple of weeks. If his eating remains stable, we'll keep him off the Reglan and will start him on Cyproheptadine, which is an antihistamine that just happens to have appetite stimulation as a side effect. (Of course, we'll be giving it to him for the appetite stimulation side effect.)

Future steps, if the Cyproheptadine doesn't help, may be consultation with an endocrinologist to see about possible growth hormone therapy, and blood work to check for allergies for milk, wheat, etc.

Other than a bit of expected panicking in the examination room, Aaron was just the charmer at the doctor's office, and at a restaurant that we stopped at on the way home. After eating, Aaron wandered around the restaurant and the attached deli, standing up by himself without hanging onto anything whenever he stumbled (that's a new ability for him, standing up in the middle of the floor without hanging onto anything). Robin was a sweetie, too, playing peek-a-boo with the ladies behind the deli counter as we ate.

So, that's where we are. We're really looking forward to next spring, when we're planning to resume somewhat of a normal life, getting back to church and introducing Aaron and Robin to their new friends (there were about 5 births at our church around the same time that Robin was born last February).

Please continue to pray for Aaron's growth and for Kathleen's and my abilities to weather the stress; it's a little challenging sometimes.

We hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving. Have a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year, too, if we don't update you in the meantime!

Love, Kevin, Kathleen, Aaron and Robin
